During my free time, I did some external research on my favorite topic-Wildlife. From young, I have always developed a strong interest in animals and thus when I came across this article by the World Wildlife Fund, I was extremely excited. The article is entitled"New Monkey Species Discovered in the Amazon" and as its name suggest, it is about the new species of monkey that has recently been discovered in the amazon. This is no surprise to me as one third of the world's total population of animals can be found in the amazon.The monkey has never been seen before as it is located in an area of the amazon that has not been fully explored.It is easily recognizable by its colored markings on its head. The new species of titi monkey was discovered by biologist Júlio Dalponte on a 590 mile expedition. This expedition was made by scientist and it took place between the Guariba and Roosevelt river.
Reflections: I feel that this discovery highlight the conservation message that I have been taught during the Wildlife Sabbaticals. I feel that conservation is so important as people are just slowly starting to recognize the importance of conservation only now. This grave mistake has already cost hundreds of species of animal that have walked the earth for thousands of years to suddenly become extinct and disappear forever.The new species of monkey tells us of the importance of protecting our remaining rain forest that we still have today. The major threat to these animals is illegal deforestation, this results in the loss of habitat forcing these animals to leave their natural homes and escape to other places. Some of them just die when this happens. In short, I feel that conservation is so important and everyone should do their part to spread the conservation message and save those animals.
