Measurements

The second topic that we covered is Measurements. In this topic we were given a more in-dept introductions to the tools that are used in the Lab for Measurements. This topic consist of: Scientific tools,Physical Properties, Micrometer Screw Gauge and Vernier Calibers and Plotting of Graph.

After being introduced to only the Bunsen Burner in the first topic, we were introduced to the other tools that are used in the Lab for measurements. There were many tools which were used for many different purposes such as measuring water, weight and air. Not only did we learn about their uses, we also learnt how to draw them. This subtopic is very useful as we can now carry out more experiments which have to do with measurements.

Physical Quantities was a rather challenging subtopic for me as I find it quite confusing. We learnt the different units of measurements in the International System of Unite(SI). We learnt about how big or small number were measured in their respective units. We also learnt how to convert these fixed quantities from one unit to another. This is a rather useful subtopic as now we can convert and understand different units of measurements.

Our of the tools that we were introduced to, we were given an even more in-depth introduction on the micrometer screw gauge and vernier calibers. Both of these tools are used to measure the length or thickness of an object. However they too have their differences which is the use of these tools. These tools are used differently and also have different uses as the micrometer screw gauge is used to measure in millimeters and the vernier calibers are used to measure in centimeters. After this subtopic we learnt how to use these two tools as they are generally harder to use and read than the other tools.

We also learnt how to plot our graphs. This is extremely useful as it allows us the better understand and compile our results in the form of a graph. We basically learnt how to first understand our results before compiling and presenting them on a graph.

Reflections: I feel that this topic as a whole is all about reading and understanding our results that we get from our experiments. With this topic we can finally do our experiments after learning how to do them in the first topic and now we can understand our results that we have gotten.
