This topic teaches us about matter in general. It consist of 3 subtopics: Three states of matter, Kinetic Particle Theory and Brownian Motion.
Everything is made up of matter which can be classified into three states which are Solid, Liquid and Gas. These states of matter have different properties. Matter exists in all three states and can change from one state to another. In the other subtopics we learnt more about these three states of matter and their properties.
The Kinetic Particle Theory states that all matter is made up of a large number of particles or molecules which are in constant, random motion. We learnt about the arrangement and movement of these particles in the three different states. The arrangement and movement of the three states of matter are all different. Solid particles are tightly packed and can only vibrate. Liquid particles can slide past each other and are further apart than solids. Gas particles are loosely arranged and are very far apart. There are two evidences for this theory which is the Brownian Motion and Diffusion.
This is the evidence that Kinetic Particle Theory is correct. This motion is the motion of small solid particles in fluids. It was first discovered when smoke particles were placed on water particles. It was observed that these smoke particles were in constant and random motion which was later known as the Brownian motion.
Reflections: This topic teaches us about matter and is our first topic under Physics. I feel that this topic is very interesting as we know understand why some things react differently from others.
