Cells

After learning about cells in Primary School, this topic serves as both a revision to what we already have learnt and a further enhancement as we go deeper into the topic learning more about cells. The topic has 2 subtopics: Cells in General, Animal and Plant Cells.

Living things are all made up of cells. The human body is made up of many different organs which have many tissues which contain billions of cells. Although we may have so many cells, some organisms are made up of just one cell. We call this unicellular, some example are Amoeba and Euglena. Cells are really tiny so we can only see them through the microscope.

Aimal Cells are made up of the Cell Membrane, Cytoplasm, Vacuoles and Nucleus. Plant Cells have Cell Wall, Vacuole, Cell Membrane, Cytoplasm and Chlororplast.  There are many differences between them. Plant Cells have a cell wall and chloropplast whilc Animal Cells do not. The vacuoles in Animal Cells are also small and numerous while Plant Cells have a central and large vacuole. The vacuoles of a plant cell also contain cell sap which contains water and dissolved substances such as suger and salt. The appearence of a Plant Cell is also different as it has a cell wall which gives it its shape and cell sape which maked it firm.

Reflections: This topic to me is more of a revision of what I had learnt in Primary School as it refreshes my memory on the topic of cells which I find very interesting.
