Photosynthesis and Respiration

This topic teaches us about how Plants and Animals differ in their method of getting food/energy.

Plants get their food through Photsynthesis which is the process of converting light energy into chemical energy in the form of starch. Light is captured by the chlorophyll/green pigment found in green leaves.Leaves act as food-making factories for the plant and that is where photosynthesis takes place. For photosynthesis to take place, there must be light energy, carbon dioxide, water and chlorophyll. A fun fact is that when the leaves turn yellor or red in Autumm, it is because the chlorophyll is disappearing, revealing the colours that actually have been there all along.

Respiration is a life process which occurs in all living things. It is the change of chemical energy which in this case is food to energy which is needed for life process.Areobic Respiration, coomonely know as breathing, is a form of respiration and requires oxygen to take place. In Areobic Respiration, food is combined with oxygenin living cells to release energy needed by the cell. The waste products of repiration are carbon dioxide and water.

Reflections: This topic is very interesting as it teaches us how plants and animals get their supply of energy in different ways.
